Not going to lie, most of us in the office thought simple syrup was something you only bought at the store. While it is usually available at your nearest liquor emporium, turns out you can also make it (very easily) at home.
Simple syrup is used in a lot of our favorite cocktail recipes here at From the Cellar, so we wanted to share this easy, two-step recipe with you. Now you can enjoy any delicious cocktail or sweet drink that requires this concoction in mere minutes:
This recipe yields 1 cup, or 8 oz., of plain simple syrup.
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
- Combine the water and sugar in a pan on your stovetop. Bring the mixture to a boil.
- Lower the heat to a simmer until all sugar is dissolved (this should take approximately 3 minutes). Remove from heat and let cool completely.
Simple syrup can be stored and kept in the fridge for a month, or frozen for longer. If you’re looking to fancify this recipe a little bit, try adding some spices or herbs like lemon or vanilla to flavor the syrup.
