holiday cookie and wine pairings - spritz cookies

Spritz Cookies

Don’t get these confused with sugar cookies! While slightly similar, spritz cookies are more buttery compared to the sugary sweet sugar cookie.

Pair these cookies with a glass of dry Riesling. The flavor notes of green apple, beeswax, and jasmine will complement the flavors in this traditional holiday cookie. You could also go with an oaked Chardonnay for this pairing. The flavor notes of butter and tropical fruits will go perfectly with this buttery treat.

Going with a lemon spritz cookie? Try a Viognier! The citrus flavor notes will harmonize with the lemon flavors from the cookie

Butter Cookies

Similar to spritz cookies, butter cookies are driven by the rich and creamy butter flavors.

The best way to pair this cookie is with an oaked Chardonnay. The oak aging gives Chardonnay a slightly creamy or buttery flavor. This buttery flavor will complement the warm butter flavor in the cookies.

  1. I enjoy Banyuls the most with crispy chocolate cookies. Or a dry Cabernet Sauvignon or Zinfandel to dark chocolate brownies. Love the wonderful aromas of sweet dessert wines like Cream Sherry or Madeira with the christmas cookie flavours.
