The greatest love story ever told is that of star-crossed lovers, chocolate and wine. Find out how to successfully pair chocolate and wine for your sweetheart (or yourself) this Valentine’s Day!
Wine and chocolate are the two greatest things we have in this life. But many people don’t think that wine and chocolate can be successfully paired. Why? Because those people are aliens. Also- and possibly more realistically- because wine and chocolate are individually very powerful in flavor, so chocolate gets a bad rap for overpowering wine. (Those people still could be aliens, though.)
So what’s the best way to pair chocolate and wine?
The Sweeter the Chocolate the Sweeter the Wine
When it comes to sweeter chocolate, make sure the wine is sweetest. And this is coming from a person who ate seven mini-chocolates… on my commute to work…at 9am…so I know my stuff. If the chocolate is sweeter than the wine, the wine will end up tasting bitter.
The Darker the Chocolate the Darker the Wine
The bitterness of the chocolate will pair seamlessly with a full-bodied red wine. Wine and chocolate have very strong flavors individually, so it is important to match a dark chocolate with an even darker wine.
